1997 Iolanthe Celia, a fairy.
"Penny is a Fourth-year European Studies student. This is also her fourth year with UGSS/MUGSS which included a triumphant year as Social Secretary of MUGSS. She shot to stardom with the critically ignored role of Isobel in the 1995 production of The Pirates of Penzance and is very excited to have more than three lines this year. Penny's hobbies include foreign travel, boy bands and Pudding. Her ambition is to play Annie in Oklahoma and to find something to do next year, preferably with Antonio Banderas"

1994 The Yeoman of the Guard A Member of the Troupe
Penny joined the society in her first year at Manchester University, mainly because it was one of the cheapest (she was little to know that MUGSS would later almost entirely absorb three years' worth of student grants and loans). Having astounded the world with her stripey tights and gymnastic ability in The Yeoman of the Guard, she quickly realised that the front of the stage was her natural home and managed, despite the incessant demands of being social secretary, to bring an almost Shakespearian quality to the part of Isobel in Pirates. Escaping from a year's banishment in Austria she returned triumphantly to Manchester to take the role of Celia in Iolanthe, a part which allowed her hair to reach new heights of ridiculousness. Penny played half of Pitti-Sing in The Mikado (no mean feat) and reached the pinnacle of her MUGSS career as Constance the Psychotic Drama Queen in The Sorcerer. Her pathetic mutterings about leaving Manchester after graduation finally proved realistic and a mere two years after graduation Penny escaped to an even bigger city, returning every few months or so.
